Tony Cragg is one of the world’s foremost sculptors working today. He combines a scientist’s inquiry into the nature of materials and a humanist’s curiosity about our emotional reaction to the natural world around us. Cragg’s first career in science has played an instrumental role in the way he uses materials to make visible the invisible world around us. He has experimented with materials as diverse as plaster, sandstone, bronze and wood, stretching the material capacity of each into images drawn from nature.

Mixed Feelings is an immense glowing monument, formed by two intertwining bronze towers, pushing together and pulling apart as they spiral towards the sky. The swirling masses suggest the great force of natural energy, while the human energy erupts into profiles as the viewer walks around the work.

Tony Cragg was born in Liverpool, and has lived and worked in Wuppertal, Germany since 1977.
