Statement From The Artist:

"Passageways" is a direct response to the historical significance of The Milwaukee River System, highlighting the parallels between it and the 3rd Street Market Hall. Drawing inspiration from the architectural features on-site and the industrial architecture of Milwaukee, Straub connects The Milwaukee River System to the Market Hall.

The rivers have given us a place for recreation and community building, and so too has this Market Hall. Its skyways and skywalks serve as connections and personal portals between downtown buildings and places; quite like the experiences of walking the Milwaukee River. Meandering the same way as the river, "Passageways" yields control to the architectural confines of the

gallery, reflecting the growth of a city amidst a river system that shaped it.

Kira Straub is a multidisciplinary sculptor, working to earn their BFA Degree, at UWM’s Peck School of the Arts.
